Sparta SIPS

Structural Insulated Panels or SIPs are an engineered product consisting of a high performance rigid polyurethane foam insulation injected and bonded to two layers of oriented strand board (OSB). This combination of materials gives a versatile and highly performing building component. We have outlined below some of the benefits of SIPs and information about the Sparta SIPs product

Thermal Performance

Never before has the thermal properties of a building been more important than today. The requirments for thermally efficient buildings is only set to increase. With the introduction of the Code for Sustainable Homes the thermal efficency of a buildings fabric is ever more important. The Sparta SIP System offers a panel that can achieve incredibly low U Values that will help the building achieve its required overall thermal performance

Air Tightness

In conjunction with its thermal performance, todays buildings need to have acceptable levels of air tightness. This air tightness ensures that the heat within the building remains there and any cold air entering the building is minimised. The inherent nature of the Sparta SIP and the way in which it is erected, means that the air tightness is built into the system. Air tightness is measured as air permeability and its units are recorded in m3/h.m2 at 50Pa. In simpler terms the amount of air (in m3) that leaks into or out of the dwelling per hour, divided by the internal area (in m2) of the building fabric at 50Pa. Therefore the lower the value the greater the air tightness.

Design flexibility

The nature of the Sparta SIP means that it can be used in most building situations. The panel can be used as wall, roof or floor components in a wide range of building types. From houses and flats to schools, hotels and commercial applications, we can provide you with a solution. Sparta Timber Limited can also offer other methods of construction such as glulam and steel structures that can be used in conjunction with the Sparta SIP System.

This means that Sparta Timber Limted can offer a bespoke engineered building solution to meet all your requirements on any mixed use development

Reduce building time and costs

If there was ever a time to minimise costs and build times, now is certainly that time. The Sparta Timber SIP System can reduce your build time of your project by upto one third. For example, a detatched four bedroom house, with basic Sparta SIP System roof, could have the structural shell erected and semi water tight in less than three weeks. Follow on trades such as brick layers, can start early and internal works can begin even before the roof is tiled. These reduced build times lead to savings that can easily be seen by you, the client.

Strength of Build

Due to the nature of how the panel is made, the Spart Timber SIP System offers a light weight weight construction and is incredibly strong in comparison. This light  weight panel will mean that the foundation specification can be reduced. Another saving that can be made by the client. The panel can be engineered to be used in constructions upto 6 storey high. If the development requires disproportionate collapse then this can be included in the engineering package.

Environmentally Friendly

As explained the Sparta SIP System creates a thermally efficient and air tight building which means the energy consumption and CO2 emmisions are reduced in the running of the house over its lifetime. The SIP's themselves are fabricated off site in the factory so creating less on site waste, The timber for the OSB comes from sustainable harvested spruce forests and there is upto 30% less timber in a SIP building than its timber frame equivalent.

When this system is used in conjunction with the products offered by our partner 'British Eco', the carbon footprint of this building is greatly reduced over its lifetime. All of these benefits can be directly passed onto the developer and end user.
